Quality Control and  Product Inspection in China

Product inspection in China is an independent check of your goods before they leave the country — at our own warehouse in Guangzhou or on site at the supplier’s factory. We verify 100% of the quantity, inspect 10% of the batch against your specification, and send a photo and video report. If the goods do not match on quality, quantity or specification, you find out while they are still in China and a replacement is a conversation, not a claim.

The service runs on its own, or as part of a purchase — on our full-service tariff it is already included. Below: what gets checked, where, what it costs, and why the timing matters more than the checklist.

How an
inspection runs

You send the specification: what the product must be, and which parameters are critical.

We build a checklist from it and agree the sample rate and where the inspection happens.

The goods arrive at our Guangzhou warehouse, or our inspector travels to the supplier.

We count 100% of the quantity and inspect the sample against the checklist.

You get a photo and video report — before the goods ship, not after.

If something is wrong, we take it up with the supplier: replacement, rework or a price adjustment.

Why the timing matters more than the checklist

Every inspection company checks roughly the same things. What decides whether the check was worth paying for is where the goods are standing when the problem is found.

Defect found at the factorysupplier remakes the batch cheapest possible outcome
Defect found at our warehousereplacement, one city away days, not weeks
Defect found after loadingthe container sails anyway you pay freight on goods you cannot sell
Defect found in the USAduty paid, freight paid, no recourse the supplier is 7,000 miles and one time zone away

This is the case for putting inspection inside the supply chain rather than hiring it separately. Because your goods already pass through our warehouse on the way to consolidation, the check happens at the second row of that table by default — not because you remembered to book it.

What an inspection cannot do

Worth being straight about the limits before you buy the service, because an inspection is sometimes sold as insurance against everything.

An inspection will catch

  • wrong quantity, short shipments and substituted items
  • visible defects, damage and poor finish
  • deviations from your specification on size, material, colour and configuration
  • packaging that will not survive ocean freight
  • missing or incorrect labelling and country-of-origin marking

An inspection will not catch

  • hidden material composition without laboratory testing
  • durability over months of use — that needs a sample and time
  • certification fraud beyond checking that a document exists
  • defects in the 90% of the batch that was not opened, which is why a sample rate is a risk decision, not a guarantee

Where a higher sample rate or laboratory testing is justified, we say so and quote it, rather than presenting 10% as certainty. If the check must be done by an accredited third-party lab for your buyer or regulator, that is a different service and we will tell you plainly that it is not ours.

FAQ

How much does product inspection in China cost?+

At our own warehouse in Guangzhou it is $15 per hour of inspector work, which includes setting up the checklist from your specification and three hours of inspection. A visit to the supplier’s own facility is $300 plus travel expenses. On our full-service purchasing tariff, inspection is already included.

How much of the batch do you actually check?+

We count 100% of the quantity — every carton — and inspect 10% of the batch against your specification checklist. Where the goods justify a higher sample rate, we say so and quote it rather than presenting 10% as a guarantee.

Do I get a report?+

Yes: a photo and video report, sent before the goods ship. That timing is the point — it is what lets you approve, hold or reject the batch while it is still in China.

What happens if the goods fail the inspection?+

We take it up with the supplier while the goods are still in the same country: replacement, rework, or a price adjustment. Because they are already at our warehouse, this usually costs days rather than a lost container.

Can you inspect goods you did not buy for me?+

Yes. The inspection is a standalone service — you can have us check a batch you bought yourself, either at our warehouse after the supplier delivers it there, or on site at the factory.

How is this different from SGS or another inspection company?+

A dedicated inspection company is hired for one visit and leaves. We are already in the chain: your goods pass through our warehouse on the way to consolidation, our staff are permanently in Guangzhou, and the same people handle the replacement with the supplier afterwards. For accredited laboratory certification, a specialist testing house is the right choice, and we will say so.
